Awakening

This series is meant to challenge your attention—to really focus on what is in front of you.  To awaken the senses.

Winter is a time of quiet. When you step outside in nature you can see your breath, feel your heartbeat and hear the soft whisper of snow falling around you. I find it fascinating how quickly the landscape can change. How something that appears to be so insignificant can create such a lasting impression. How nature at times can be so silent, and yet have so much to say—if we only take the time to listen. By allowing it to take over, you can become more in touch with your surroundings or even yourself.

These photographs were taken in the winter; during snow squalls, light snow and on overcast days. I focused on obscure objects and softened landscapes. I used snow as a blank canvas to isolate my subject or act as the subject, highlighting only the slightest of details.

Art can allow us to see things differently. It can also carry us through difficult times. For me, this series was a way of working through a very challenging time in my life. From that feeling of darkness and uncertainty, came light and clarity—that was my Awakening
