H. Brewster: A Tenth Generation Farm Boy

H. Brewster: A Tenth Generation Farm Boy is a series, documenting five years of Hudson Brewster Fitch’s life growing up on a small multi-generational family farm in Cornish, New Hampshire.

From an early age, Hudson preferred work over toys, unless it was a toy tractor. Hudson's first tractor ride with Daddy (Courtland Brewster - Gen. 9), five days after his first birthday, set the standard of daily life. And once he mastered walking, Hudson set to work helping Papa (James Clyde Fitch - Gen. 8) muck stalls with a pitch fork, twice his size.

From that moment on, Hudson spent most of his days outside doing chores, which he took very seriously. The more he worked, the stronger he became; much of it due to the time spent on his pedal tractor.

By three years old, Hudson and Papa were bonded by work. Papa began teaching Hudson all about farming. They would do chores together, work in the garden and go for walks in the woods. When Hudson wasn’t able to help Papa, he would observe from a distance and recreate what he saw in the driveway with his brother Hayden. When asked what Hudson wanted to be when he grew up, he replied, “A farmer, just like Papa.”
